How can I get past the password protection without the password?

We bought a second hand matsui vx 1108 recorder but can't reset the password as we do not know what that is? How can we reset this so that it can be used please?

Have you tried
"PRESS REC & CH+ FOR 10 SECS SIMULTANEOUSLY"
while on the blue screen which shows "protected" and on the password entry screen?
