hotpoint aqualtis 1400 will not spin on coloured?

when machine is on coloured cycle it will not go on to spin but when spin cycle is selected it will spin

My confused mind suggests that you notice a feature of the design rather than a fault - to prevent colours running from one item to another automatic spinning is inhibited.
