how do I fix my rover 25?

My rover 25 1.6 si jerks and sometimes backfires when I am driving along even on a flat road. Could it be electrical, petrol, air filter or a combination of all these. Also the car judders when the clutch is on the biting point, the clutch is 7 months old. Any help would be appreciated
