Key won't disable immobiliser 2003 LDV Convoy HELP!!?

Hi, I have a 2003 (53 plate) LDV Convoy (tipper) with a 2.4 Duratorq transit engine. When I insert the key and turn it the immobiliser flashes like mad and nothing else happens, no noise etc. This happens every couple of days, and usually I just try removing and re-inserting the key a few times and then it works but today I tried for 30min, then left it a while and went back to it and it still won't turn over/start. I am always careful to insert the key the correct way up. Any ideas on what is causing this or how it might be fixed would be a great help as van is now abandoned on my mates driveway!!

Thanks for your advise... just need to figure out where the control unit is?! Moisture is a possibility as recently has windscreen replaced but was in a hurry so they couldn't replace trim which has a few holes/bits missing. They warned me it might leak although it doesn't appear to be and we haven't had rain for a week.
Another strange thing is that it appears to only happen when the vehicle has been parked on unlevel ground, always passenger side up (i.e. up a kerb). Possible coincidence??!
I did read on one forum that someone had similar issue and found a black box (control unit??) under/around passenger side glove compartment and he pulled it towards him and wedged in a bit of card and since then it has worked.
My mate started it this morning no problem then tried a second time and nothing again. I am hoping its maybe an issue with the key or antenna, or even moisture in the control unit. I do not fancy trying to fix it with 'Joe Ninety Cardoc's method, knowing my luck i would cause an electrical fire in it!!!

At a guess it is moisture in the control unit.

All manner of people report the same problem, which you will have seen whe you did a search for yourself (you did, didn't you?)

I found a fairly brutal solution here (check the post by Joe Ninety Cardoc December 2012, some way down the page)
