Intermittent charging on Citroen Dispatch 2.0HDi 2005?

My van has stopped charging. At the same time the blower has stopped working. If I start it and rev it, the charging light goes out then comes back on.
However, occasionally, it will charge and the blower then works.
Anyone any ideas?

check with a voltmeter when running,should be about 14v+,sounds like your alternator is on the way out.
