Panasonic DVD Recorder Screen 'Noise'?

Panasonic hard disc and dvd recorder. Several years old now. Works & records OK except that there is 'noise' horizontal lines across screen when displaying a freeview station or on recorded playback. The aerial lead goes into the recorder and out to the TV. The TV signal is excellent with 'noise'. As the aerial signal goes through the recorder and out to the TV I assume that the problem must be within the recoirder itself. Any ideas what id wrong and how to epair it or is it better to get a ne machine?

Eliminate the recorder completely. What happens if you plug the aerial lead directly intpo the TV (Assuming the TV is a digital one, that is). How good is the picture. Any noise? No: your problem is probably with he recorder. Yes: the ussue is elsewhere.
How does the recorder connect to the TV? SCART? Component? HDMI? Can you use a different connection to eliminate the current recorder output?
Is there noise if you watch recorded show? Is there noise if you watch realtime TV via the recorder?
