Miele W842 washing machine fault code?

Miele W842 washing machine fills with water and then a "RINSES" light flashes indicating a fault. Cannot get rid of this or get the machine to function correctly.

I have followed the troubleshooting guide to no avail [Turn off, restart program etc]

If the machine is started, it appears to fill, then the program then goes to drain and skips the motor cycle. The drum does not move. I have checked the inlet filters, cleaned the filling chamber and dispenser, taken the top off [no burnt smell or broken belt and nothing visibly obviously wrong].

Heard quite a bang prior to finding this fault - thought someone had knocked over the wheely-bin!!

Any help appreciated

I had the same fault on my W842 - including the loud noise from the drum! Now the
I phoned Miele Service and the fault is "No drum detection".
I now have to wait 6 days for service visit.
I am trying to decide whether to write the machine off. It is 13 years old, but in superb shape and Miele do like to quote their "20 years service life".
Current call out charge is £111 inc 1 hour labour. Plus parts.
If I don't proceed (uneconomic to repair) it will cost £72.
The new Miele I would consider is around £850.

I had the same fault. Fault lies in either the motor or the circuit board. It is easy to check the brushes on the motor by a visual check - bit of a pain to remove the motor. I actually had a faulty circuit board. I found a relay to be fused and the fuse blown. the fuse is soldered onto the circuit board. After woking out how to open the machine i found a circuit diagram in the machine which enabled me to diagnose the fault. the parts are available from farnell components and the cost was about $30.00AUD delivered overnight. Good luck if you have this same fault code.

I am answering my own question for reference for others. The short answer is - give Miele £234 !.
The flashing "rinses" light simply states that the fault is that the drums is not turning [it has a tachograph which can tell this] but it does not tell you why - whether it is the motor or the belt or the electronics.
In my case the engineer was able to directly power the motor to show that it was OK. Then changed the electrical panel [£120] and everything worked.
