How can I stop Win XP SP2 from telling me that Auto Updates is off?

I have upgraded to SP2 (Windows XP) and I never allow Windows to automatically update. (It's a trust thing.)

Every time I login a Balloon Nag warns me that Automatic Updates is off. (I know!)

How can I stop this Balloon from appearing from the Task Bar every time I login?

YOUR GONNA HAVE TO CHANGE A FILE IN THE REGISTRY.
THEY MAKE A BOOK CALLED HACKING WINDOWS XP.
IT WONT TELL YOU HOW TO HACK, IT JUST TEACHES YOU HOW TO MODIFY AND TUNE WIN XP TO YOUR TASTE
IT ALSO TEACHES YOU COOL TRICKS .
MY FAVORITE IS CHANGING THE "START" WORD TO
SS_CAMARO_SS
BECAUSE I OWN 3 CAMAROS,IT LOOKS COOL. AND NOT EVERYONE CAN DO IT

I had the same problem when I loaded SP2, though my system is OK now and I do not get any reminders. From memory, I think I double clicked the 'shield' icon in the system tray which brought up a dialogue box. From there I told windows that another application would deal with security (i.e. I just ticked the relevant box). Voila, no more reminders.
Because I have done this I do not get a sheild icon anymore and so cannot replicate what I did.
Worth a try - hope this helps.

Let us know how you get on.
