How can I retrievew the power cord?

The power cord on my Kenmore Progressive Vacuum Cleaner Modael # 116 22612203 has retracted onto the reel in the well, How can I open the case to retrieve it?

Thanks vacuumcleanerhelp.com for your help. Your answer was very helpful. One additional thing was the bag door comes off (for access to the screws) if one continues to "open" the door past its stop point..

There are two screws under the bag door hinges, and two more under the cord retract button. The button has to be pryed off with a screw driver (starting from the back) to get to the screws. For more help or parts, our email is arctic@worldlynx.net
