how to fix shower triton amber?

when i turn on the shower the light on the pull cord switch goes out why is this

The same thing is happening to my triton amber. the light on the cord switch is on, but then when you turn the shower on, it goes off, and the water coming through is cold. it doesn't trip, just doesn't seem to work.
