firstly is it an absolute, and Purple and Lime in colour? If it is not,this method is not for your machine!
But remember, if you damage any of the inside of the housing, it might cost you a new dyson. I saw one on Ebay for £25 just a year old cos they're guaranteed for 2 years, so if any doubt, look on Ebay!
Prior to any dismantling, telephone your nearest dyson supplier to confirm supply of the new clutch, ring around they do vary in price. I actually bought a reconditioned one with a 3 month warranty, for a third of the price of a new one.
First, remove the power plug from the power. Remove the dust container, gently prise the filter from underneath it.pull off the 2nd belt from the motor drive shaft making note of the high degree of difficulty you will experience when re-assembling, I can assure you there is some! Remove the brush roller from the belt. Using a phillips screwdriver, gently unscrew all the screws (12 in all), (4 underneath the dust container filter). carefully dismantle the housing,
Take off the 2 separate green plastic washers(either side brush control swivel) gently, at the same time, at the same angle remove from the housing, (IF THE ANGLE IS TOO ACUTE IT WILL BREAK) until left with brush and clutch housing; here you will find a further 2 screws to undo; Carefully, prise off the green clutch housing cover that protrudes through the dyson housing. Gently, prise out the clutch drive, taking particular care not to damage the inner body housing of the dyson, that the clutch fits into.
The replacement and re-assembly is the reversal. I used thin string fed through the housing looped to the drive shaft BELT, (BEFORE I REASSEMBLED - (2nd belt) YOU MUST BE SURE IT IS ON THE DRIVE SHAFT OTHERWISE THE CLUTCH WILL NOT WORK) to re-hook it back on, and prevent the belt from slipping off the drive shaft. The Brush belt is hard to get on but I did it, so can you.
It was fiddly, but I did it, so can you. Good luck! My Dyson DC04 Absolute works fine.
