CAN AN UNFINALIZED DVD DISC PLAY ON ANY OTHER RECORDER?

My electricty went out one night and ever since then my Pioneer 225 -s- dvd recorder will not work...wont even turn on. Is there any way to fix the recorder? I have tons of dvd's I've recorded but I never finalized them so I dont think they will play on another recorder. The Pioneer dvd recorder has been discontinued. A lot of these dvd's were vhs tapes I transferred on to dvd, so they are irreplaceable. Is there any hope? Can an unfinalized disc play on another recorder even if its another brand?

You can use a PC with a DVD Writer to finalise the disk. Use either Nero or Sonic software, and there is an option to choose the 'track' you've recorded and add to it. Add just an empty text file, and choose 'finalise disk' when you burn this. Instead of putting just the little text file on the DVD, it'll add it to the end of the track you've already written, then finalise it, and your new DVD player will be able to see it.

It's not fast, as I think it has to read the whole track in first. But I did it on a DVD that I took to work that I'd forgotten to finalise, took about an hour for 2 hours of video, and I was able to play it in a standad DVD player. You may be able to do it with other software but I know Nero and Sonic both have the feature.

The simple answer is no. However you may find that another model of the same brand will allow you to finalise. Finally some clever people manage to finalise stuff using a PC burner and the right software.
