how to fix a timing belt on a escort van?

i have a 1998 escort van 1.8[diesel] and want to change the timing belt,but am not sure if i need to change the two (2) belts or just the one,please help.

take it to a cam belt specialist and get both belts changed,
there are special tools to lock the gears before removing the belts it,s a very precise job.
