ryobi grass trimmer centrifical clutch?

seems clutch is engaged prior to trying to start, resistance noted when trying to start - engine won't spin fast enough to fire

Be careful when installing the new clutches as they are easily bent outward. There may be a special tool (wrench?) to tighten the clutches onto the output shaft. NEVER! NEVER!! run the trimmer without the clutch housing in place. I did and needed to see a doctor about the chunk of metal(clutch) I pulled out of my thigh. The clutches have small wieghts that move out with centrifugal force and the housing holds them in but without the housing they are not limited and will tear away enbedding themselves somewhere painful!!! My trimmer is a Ryobi SS30. Good Luck.

It's very easy to access the clutch, just remove the 4 screws retaining the drive pole head to the pull chord housing, gently pull away about an inch or 2 & move to one side, this willexpose the clutch housing, if the housing spins freely then thats not the problem, if it dosen't spin freely, then take housing off, this is secured through the center of the drive housing with a single screw (down the center where drive cable locates) just undo the center screw & lift of housing to reveal the problem. Hope this helps!! Adrian
