Can I repair electrolux central vac hose with hole?

I have an electrolux (aerus) central vac hose that has a hole just below the handle. The electric wire runs the length of the hose and a local vaccuum store won't fix it. It would seem that it should be very straightforward to cut the hose and just shorten it by 6". Can this be done safely?

It can be done, but I don't recommend it if it's an electric hose. I've fixed a couple and would rather not do another. It's really more hassle than just cutting the hose a few inches down. You have to make sure you leave the proper length of wire out, with NO nicks or cuts in the insulation. When disconnecting the wire ends from the terminals, there's a very good possibility of breaking the terminals.
If done, it should only be done at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store.

IT'S PROBABLY EASIER TO GET SOME GRAY DUCT TAPE. CUTTING THE HOSE AND REATTACHING IT TO THE HANDLE WOULD PROBABLY CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS THAN IT WOULD SOLVE.
