PROBLEM WITH MY SNAPPER LT14H33 MOWER?

I have had this mower for about 5 years and it's always had this problem. When the fuel tank gets to 1/2 it just shuts off like its out of gas. Fill the tank back up and your good till you get down to 1/2 tank again. It is a gravity feed system. Also if I don't shut the shut off valve the motor will fill itself with gas and hydrolock. Not sure if the problems a related or not. Thanks for any input

it could be related. when the fuel enters into the carburetor from the fuel line it passes by a needle thats in a seat. when the carb bowl fills up the fuel raises a float that closes the needle in the seat stopping the flow of fuel until the fuel is used the float drops more fuel comes in an so forth.now if the needle and seat are worn fuel will leak past, dirt or debrie will cause this too. also the float could get a pin hole in it making it fill up the float itself so it doesnt float properly.if the intake valve is open the over flow of fuel enters and fills up the cumbustion chamber.i would empty out your fuel tank completely you might have water in it or debrie in it clean and check the carb too.
