The direct drive coupler is probably broken. I assume it is direct drive and not belt drive.

no, the brushes can be worn and work intermittently, mine used to stop occasionally, it steadily got worse, it started by stopping before the spin cycle, then it got progressively worse.
you can always check them, by taking them out.

Shurly if the brushes are worn then the motor wouldnt go at all.
I stand to be corrected as mine has the same problem

I should point out that the brushes dont look like brushes! The carbon element looks like the inner of a very thick pencil! Order them and look for them on the motor or you wont know what your looking for!

I have a washer that is old and stopped spinning. The problem is the carbon brushes that are on the motor are worn. This is an easy task and more importantly cheap! Look at spares2go.co.uk or espares.co.uk look for your model number and look for carbon brushes. I paid about £7.50 for a set of 2.
When fitting you need to turn power off, remove the washer lid (screws at the rear) and locate the motor, this will be connected to the drum via a rubber belt. The brushes are situated around the shaft of the motor. The brushes will have an electrical connection, again nothing to worry about, just a spade connector that is pushed on or pulled off. It can be a bit stiff after 7yrs but just give it a wiggle. The brushes will sit in a plastic bracket which clips in to the motor, you may need a screwdriver (flat point) to ease the old ones out. just clip the new ones in and reconnect the electrical connections. And then place the lid back on. The jobs a good un
