How can I fix my Sanyo DWM-400 DVD player?

Once the DVD is inserted, the player automatically starts playing the Disc, and I cannot stop the player. The Disc will not eject, and the player cannot be turned off. Even after unplugging the unit and plugging it back in after 30 seconds, the player turns on and the "Disc in" and "Play" lights are on.
When plugging in the player, a spark occurs at the plug.
Also, the player shows video for about 40 seconds, and then stops. This player was made in May, 2004 and the Serial number is N45G3732 C.

I'm having the same issue with the same player model.
I don't see any blown caps on the power supply board, controller board, or ui board. I also ran across a spanish forum where a user was experiencing the same thing. It appears to be a fairly common issue, just maybe not well discussed as DVD players are 'disposable electronics' due to their relatively cheap price.

have a look at the power supply board, check that one of the capacitors hasn't blown its top off. It may not look like it has blown, however there may be 2 or more capacitors & one will have a slightly raised top if it is faulty, compare it visually with the others.
It is possible the rating will be 4v 220uf or similar
