Take the backpanel off behind the drum (the sticking out bit) & there are two screws that attach the thermostat to this panel. Pull this out slightly & stick a safety pin in the hole, you should hear a click. The thermostat should've just tripped itself.
I have done this 3 times now & it works for me, the repair man showed me.
