The gearstick is moving into all gear positions without any conection with the gears... while the engine is still running! I hope to do the work myself as I am a bit skint! Any suggestions?

I checked the cables and they were ok that was quite simple, I THEN took the top of the gear change off the gearbox which was very tricky, I needed a bendy ratchet thingy and a sense of humor... I got that off pulled it out and I found a small bolt missing in the gearbox... this must be found and replaced..
