problems with vauxhall movano?

2.2 dti turbo diesel common rail Y2001 i've just had the vacuum (something snapped) pump and cambelt changed, now i;ve got an engine noise when you drive, its ok if you drive it steady, but if you go over about 3k revs it lacks a bit of power and makes a noise not so much a tapping noise but similar with a bit of black smoke coming from the exhaust, i've been told it could be a sticking hydraulic valve lifter stuck or a valve damaged, any ideas

I suspect that when the cambelt was fitted the fitter did not get the pump timing right. even on common rail engines some pumps have to be set in the correct position or the injection timing may be altered. your own synopsis could also be correct but when the mechanic replaced your vac pump he should have checked for missing/harmful debris assuming the vac pump is engine driven (camshaft)

Take it back and ask them to id the fault.
