Where could the smoke be coming from?

I have a Ford Taurus and I have smoke coming from the hood when I park the car after driving it for awhile. When I pop the hood i can't see the smoke but if i look underneath it, it looks like the smoke is coming from a pipe under the motor. What could this be?

'after driving for a while', sounds like it involves overheating. smoke or steam? steam means dead cooling system, or engine problems leading to overheating. smoke could be from a worn clutch, but from a pipe its probably not. could just be a leak in the exhaust pipe, actually.
