How do you get a old engine to start when it is in a vary bad condition?

How do you get a old engine to start when it is in a vary bad condition. It has been sitting out for about 3 years. I need to know what to check to see what works to start it. If you could write back at golfer5417@hotmail.com that would be great,
Thank you. Ps if you have an tip that would be great. I don't know what kind of model it is but it is just a old gas powered trimer and i don't want to use it for a trimer all i want is it to run thankyou.

If the engine has very poor compression it will never start. However you should check the spark. Remove spark plug and place it against the metal body with the elactrical lead atached pull starter cord and see if there is a spark. If there is no spark then you have an electrcal problem or the spark plug could be faulty. Make sore it is at least clean. You can use erostart spray to ensure there is fuel to start if it stops after a few seconds there is a fuel problem. All engines need compression, fuel and a spark. If any of the three is missing the egine cannot run.
