American Standard Shower Valve?

I have a single lever (actually a rotating knob) American Standard valve. It doesn't allow any hot water (cold is fine) to pass. Last time this happened (that was about a year ago -- this particlar shower doesn't get used much), the plumber removed the face plate, took out something and applied some lubricant to it. Looked pretty easy if you know what you're doing! I feel I can do it with some help.

A picture of the valve is posted at:

Thanks for the help.

Ray, I'm just a diy sort -- was just searching for a picture.

I have a similar prob but mine is HOT alla time! We've not used the shower for 3 - 4 years (have a couple others of course !
:-) I have in hand an American Std. part # 66269-0070A. I got it a while back but ASSUME it'll fix the prob. Years ago it acted up and I took it all apart (BUT had to have the whole house water off for 3 - 4 hrs) and soaked it in vinegar to free it up. This time it gets replaced! -- just 4 Phillips head screws. (I took notes the first time) JL
