How do I fix my Kenmore 80 series washer?

Our washer will fill with water and over fill. If we advance to a spin cycle, the tub will drain and spin. Could this be the water level switch?

take the back off of you console (where the timer is) you will see a plastic tube leading to a diapham. It goes down to the bottom of the basket connected to a air chamber, when the water level goes up it increases teh air pressure in the tube to push the diapham switch. You might have a leak in it or the tube might be off the air chamber. Try also tapping the screww in the middel of the diapham it might just be stuck. Good luck

What do we do if its the water level switch?

Hi,

It's very possible that it is the water level switch. I would first check the plastic hose thats connected to the switch for an air leak. See if it is cracked or damaged. If it leaks air it will give you the problem you are now experiancing. If that checks ok, I would then test the switch.
