how can i fix my 1988 ford taurus?

where do the wire's go on a starter cylinoid on my 1988 ford taurus 3.0 engine

I'm generalising here but I may be able to help - positive thick wire from the battery to the large solenoid terminal itself...there may be one or two other ring terminal connections to this terminal and they are likely to be coloured red. One will go to the alternator and the other could go to the car fuse box. There should be another connection, maybe black with a push on spade connect that actually energises the starter itself. Thats the set up in the freezing UK anyway!
