I had taken my wall clock down for the holidays and when I put it back up, it now rings totally randomly. At 7 it may ring 12 times, then at 7:30 it could ring twice then at 8 it will be 6 times. I have often corrected the clock when it gets off by a half hour but this has me totally puzzled. There is no make or model on this clock and I bought it in Europe many years ago.

Move the minute hand up until it strikes. Count the strikes and then gently move the hour hand to the number that it struck. The hour hand is on by friction, if it becomes lose, push it back toward the face to tighten it up.
