How do I get tapes to play??

I don't know my model, but anytime I insert a tape, it doesn't play, instead it makes a clicking sound every few seconds.
How can I get a tape to play??

I would start out with a thorough cleaning and then run the tapes fast forward first and then rewind and then attempt to play them. Good luck!
