Have you installed ACDSee? This software came with my Pentax Optio L40 and, once installed, recognised my camera when I used the USB cable to connect it. My PC runs XP SP2.

If it came with a driver disc you need to install that then the PC should recognise it.
Or you could take the memory card out of the camera and plug it into a card reader.
