How do I get a digital camera to work when it states it has a cap on?

My digital camera states that I have to remove the lens cap to record. However, it will not work after I remove the cap. Does anyone out there knows how to correct this problem. I have a JVC compact VHS comcorder. The model is GR-SXM260U.
