How can I fix my Ford Mondeo GLX 1.8i L reg Starter Motor?

I have a Ford Mondeo GLX 1.8i 16v (L Reg) and I have an intermittent starter motor problem. I have no power problems but every now and again when I turn the key there is a click but no life from the starter motor. By unconnecting and reconnecting the battery a few times, the car usually starts although I am not sure whether this was a coincidence or not. An electrics or lead problem? Please help!

hi just to let u know the starter motor does need replacing the click u hear is the solinoid sticking its just a coincidence that removing the battery seems too solve. Being a 1.8 zetec means its not the easiest job to do its at the back of the engine below everything and has to be accessed from below

I also own a Mondeo GLX 1.8 L reg, and from what i've gained from various sources, is that the starter motors are notoriously bad on our models. Mine is on its last legs, as it sometimes lets out a awful screeching noise when I turn the ignition on, so the experts claim that a new starter motor is the only solution.
Its the road ill shortly be going down...
