When I turn it on it just goes up and down.. and up and down... No one can actually use it, except the kids who like to pretend it is an amusement park ride.

Is this fixable? I have no clue what to do with it except use it as a very expensive (and heavy) paper weight.

You need to try calibrating the elevation.
instructions should be on the inside of the motor hood
