how do I stop the emmisions pollution light on peugeot 307hdi?

why does my engine management light comes on and the car starts to pull back and sometimes cuts out. It started when I HAD A NEW EXHAUST put on.My car is a peugeot 307hdi

Possibilities:

The Oxygen sensor may have been damaged during the exhaust repair.

The exhaust system may be fitted with a 'Particle filter' if this sends information to the ECU that it needs attention then this would give the symptoms described.
