How to repair a badley stained walnut table?

Hi,
I have a lovely old walnut polished regulary dinning table. Hot sauce was spilt on it which left a white stain about 5 inch across which feels rough to the touch. The only thing I have done to is to mop up the sauce and left it to dry out.

I love this table but can't afford to take it to the experts to repair it. Can anyone help Please?
Many thanks

There are numerous 'polishes' that claim to restore stained wood - however they rarely do what they say on the tin, to coin a phrase...if the stain feels rough to the touch then I'm afraid the grain has lifted and a complete repolish is necessary to make it perfect. However if you ring up a good furniture store they will have 'experts' at their finger tips who could give you better advice than me as they do this all the time....I have a similar problem but 'er indoors' hasn't seen it yet :)
