How do I know if the cambelt's gone?

A man said it sounded like my cambelt was going or had gone when I started my vauxhall corsa (t reg), what should I do? How much will it cost to fix? How do I know if it has gone?

If cambelt is broke engine will sound like its turning over faster because theres no compression ......can take vavle cover cap... and while cranking see if camshaft is moving ........or do a compression check on cylinders and should be low if belt is gone ..

You could try looking through the OIL CAP to see if it's turning over while you try and start it. (If it has gone and you've been trying to start it over and over again..... oh dear! Been there, done that, paid through the nose!)
