buy some Easy start from a petrol garage or car spares shop.

undo the air filter cover on the side of the engine near the carb. spray the easy start into the air intake hole exposed by removing the air filter. a one second spray is enough. the engine will start to run and proiding the petrol is getting through it will continue to run. then replace the air filter after its run a couple of minutes. always turn choke off once started. you may have to repeat the spray a few times for stubborn engines, but never spray more than one squirt before starting. this will work for most garden machinery espeically after winter.

Tip some neat fuel into the spark plug hole - if the machine fires it shows the ignition system is ok.. also crank the engine over a few times with the plug out to clear excess fuel in case its flooded by repeated start attempts.
