Cav lucas diesel fuel injector pump on a JCB?

I ran out of fuel which blocked the fuel prime pump and the inlet to the fuel injector pump. I cleaned out both of the pumps, changed both fuel filters and primed the system but no fuel is coming into the fuel injector pipes to the inlet valves when JCB turned over. Dead mans is off.s Anyone got any idea

That happened to me. Shaft sheared inside pump.
Still check the filter gauze at the injector pump inlet. It gets gummed up even though it is after all the other filters. You will probably have to remove the injector pump to get at it.

depending how long it has been standing and if water has been present/the metering valve always sticks in the shut off position.if there is no resistance on the stop lever than the above is the norm

has it got a shut of solinoid

Quite likely is a lift pump problem. The membrane on some lift pumps will not rise and fall once the pump is air-locked. In our concrete plant we once had to call out a fitter after changing the diesel filter on a Scania 460 V8 tractor unit. He pressurised the tank with the air line after blocking off the breather and the fuel eventually worked through.

Tony,
What was your resolution to the problem? I am in the same situation and not having luck getting the fuel to flow.

John Deere mechanics response is that sometimes they can be a bitch so just keep trying.

thanks,

set up a slave fuel tank of a gallon can connect fuel filter input line to can try to start this will eliminate faults in the tank/linesdo same bypassing filters(clean fuel)the idea is to isolate possible faults until u narrow thefield.if it starts when the slave tank is fitted to the filter then the pipe is blocked, blow compressed air back down to the tank.work ur way foreward eliminating any possibility that the fuel supply is blocked.there is very little suction on a working fuel delivery system dosent take much to stop it.once u have eliminated supply faults the only thing it can be is the stop solenoid onthe injection pump(if fitted)looks like an oil pressure switch disconect power lead ,remove solonoid clean plunger mech repalce.or replace without the plunger to test .course this means it will not turn of with key u will have to stall it if succesful

Thanks A.R,

Already done that, Cracked the nuts by the injectors but still no fuel coming to the end of the pipe. I am baffled by this??????????

ITS A ROUGH SOLUTION BUT I HAVE IN THE PAST USED EASY START PULSED INTO THE INTAKE WHILE CRANKING TO OVERCOME ANY RELUCTANCE TO DRAW THE FUEL THROUGH USUALLY THEY WILL RUN ON THE GAS PULSED IN UNTILL THE FUEL STARTS TO DRAW.THIS ALL PRESUMES NO DIRTY STICKING DEADMANS OR SOLINOID
