I have just bought a second hand Peugeot 405 with factory fitted radio cassette that has steering column control and wish to replace it with a CD/MP3 player - can this be done whilst still retaining control at the steering column?

Yeah, Autoleads sell adapters for some radios (like Sony, Alpine, Kenwood). You plug the steering wheel control cable into one end, and the other end goes into the radio. I've done it on a 306 and a 206, works great. Do a search on Google for "Autoleads steering control adapter". Cost about £20
