dont put ventilation in your soffit as it will attract alot of dirt put your ventilation on top of your fascia with under eave vents or ubbink which is a all in one eaves protector and vent which slot into each other im not sure of building regs but cetainly over the past five years that i have fitted we have had to put ventilation in im not sure whether its to do with if ever loft conversions get carried out on the property ventilation would be needed

as long as you put a vent strip in one side you should be fine
or can use round vents just need a hole cutter
