how difficult is it to replace a laser?

I've been told that my Dennon stereo requires a new laser. How much are they and is it straightforward enough to do myself?

Some may come as a complete mechanism with laser as an option and others the laser replaced individually but both will require to desolder a link on the laser circuit board before use as these are static sensitive devices. Just a reminder that this link will have to be removed first if you decide to replace but avoid handling the laser and at the very least grasp the metal taps in the kitchen before to reduce the risk of destroying or reducing life of the new unit with static charge if a static wrist band unavailable.

no soldering is usually required you replace it as an assembly but it usually works out cheaper to buy a new player than to fit a new one.

also the new mechanism might need realigning which requires scope to calibrate. might be cheaper to track down the assembly and ask a tech to fix and calibrate for u

take care

to replace it you need to be able to solder do NOT look at the laser un till it is back togeather
