Most of the god awfull clonks on this vehicle come from antiroll bar bushes(front and rear)not dear, about a fiver each and easy fit at front.as for transmission backlash without seeing its dificult to diagnose, but some of the land rovers i have time between lifting clutch and moving off to make a rollup.try jacking up one rear wheel and with it in 1st rotate road wheel back and forward.this might show up diff slack.dont discount rear sprin mounting bushes/gearbox mounts ect.dangerous test time.hand brake fully on and rear wheels chocked front and back of wheel.alternate between 1st and reverse just enough to make it try and climb the chocks while (this is the good bit)someone underneath watches all fleximounts .who do you trust that much.
