whats wrong with my engine?

i have a briggs engine it won't start.i have replaced spark plug rebuilt carb checked valves for sticking the engine has good spark gas coming to carb.i also replaced gas line and filter the engine seems to have good compresson. it wont start using starting fluid either.the engine is on a snapper mower.its old i don't know the h.p. of this engine. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Jerry,
Check your magneto,sand off any rust with 100 grid sandpaper
check gap between magneto and flywheel,it should not be bigger than the thickness of a match book cover.Always works for me.

Hi Jerry,
I would suggest you check the timing.To do this you have to remove the nut on the flywheel to see if the small key between the wheel and the shaft is sheared . If it is even partly sheared it will throw everything off and it won't start.
