how do i get the tray to open its stuck?

how can i fix my magnavox wvd 2206 dvd vcr combo.
the tray on dvd will not open or respond at all

If there's a small hole in the front of the tray (as on a PC's CDROM drive) pushing a longish rod into the hole unwinds the mechanism as you push.
