Intermittent starting problem on Peugeot 307 1.6 53 plate?

When attempting to start a clicking noise is heard, when the car was jumped started by the breakdown co. it started ok. Was told to leave it running for approx. 1 hour and then retry again but the same fault occurred. The next day it started ok, had the battery checked and all is ok including cranking and charging voltage. The car was ok for the next two days then the fault occurred again.I have been told it is possibly a bad connection or the starter solenoid, but the fact it has been jump started across the same connections four times since the fault occurred and always starts seems to dismiss those theories. Would be grateful for any suggestions to resolve the problem.

my mazda 626 has started doing this. If I keep turning key eventually it starts. When turning key sounds like a clicking noise inside of car, it does not sound like starting motor sticking which I used to get on an old escort years ago. This sounds more electronic. All ignition lights come on and go off as they should, baffling!
