Iwhtout knowing what type and model, I can only give you a general idea. Easiest way is to remove the cover. Wind assembly to tension spring. insert cord and tie it on. Let go of assembly and cord should wind itself. Look at www.briggsandstratton.com. The will show you how to do it on a lawn mower engine which will give you a better idea.
