My hedge cutter is fitted with a kawasaki 22cc engine and after putting away last year, it needed servicing by garden centre to get it started this year but it now cuts out as soon as it is lifted above horizontal.
Garden shop says not their fault or problem. No local Kawasaki dealer and no handbook.

Sounds like you have an air leak in the crankcase through wear and tear.
