How can I fix a Zanussi DWS-919?

Hi,

I have been experiencing problems with a Zanussi DWS-919, whereby the top half of the dishwasher always comes out dirty. This problem occurs, even if lightly soiled glasses are placed in the top only. The dirt is then baked hard onto the items in the top and have to be soaked to get rid of the debris.

We have tried cleansing cycles and prewashing the items loaded, however this does not work.

All suggestions will be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Mark

There is no water getting into the machine. All pipes leading too and from the appliance are clear of obstruction. The pump at the back of the appliance isnt getting hot, but the machine will stop working after 1 minute on any given cycle. Any suggestions?

The upper spray arm may be blocked, which will prevent it rotating. To test it put an empty mug on the top basket and operate on wash for around 30 seconds, the mug should then be full of water.
If not, remove the upper spray arm and check inside the small holes in either end, these get blocked with food.
Just tapping the spray arm on a work surface you should be able to work the bits free out of the large hole in the centre of the arm.

You could check that the upper sprinkler arm is rotating ok.

Ours (a Zanussi, but not a 919) originally had a plastic arm that within a few months of use became too stiff to turn, resulting in a similar problem to yours, with the stuff at the top not getting cleaned.

We managed to get it replaced under warranty - with a metal one. Its been fine ever since.
