why is my 2000 model renault megane engine knocking???

my fan belt tensioner snapped off the other day, iv now fixed it but theres a knocking sound coming from the engine. could it be the bottom end bearings?

You should get your car checked out also check how much oil is in the car if there is a lot go to a local mechanic as it could be serious
