My Maytag washer stopped spinning on the spin cycle, and made this high-pitched sceeching sound, and smelt like burnt rubber. Does it have a broken belt? Is it easy to replace? What is the easiest way to get to it, if a broken belt is the problem?

Hello,

Remove the two screws toward the bottom of the front panel and then lift the bottom toward you. The panel should come right out. Here, you can check your belts. Before replacing any belt make sure the pump and motor turn freely and are not locked up otherwise the belt will burn off again if in fact that is indeed your problem.
