Bypass Ford Explorer immobiliser?

MI can't start my ford explorer and have been told that it is because my key fob isn't sending out a signal. It wouldn't lock my car when I parked and then the immobiliser came on and so now I can't start it, yet all the lights and elec windows etc work. I can lock and unlock it with the key, but the immobiliser needs the remote to set it on or off.

Is there any way I can bypass the immobiliser?

The car is a UK 1997 ford explorer auto 4 litre

Thank you

We've just had the same problem with our 1997 Ford Explorer. We parked it outside a Fire Station, went shopping at Tescos, and when we came to start it - there was nothing. The lights flashed and the fob blinked red but it wouldn't start. We thought it was the fob battery but the red light flashed on the fob and the car lights were flashing on & off. We tried the immobiliser near the receiver which is located near the back panels / tool box area but nothing. The immobiliser signal was obviously being jammed somehow and we then realised we had parked next to a Fire Station. The only thing I could think of was that the Fire Station communication system was blocking our immobiliser. So the only thing to do was to tow the car away from the Fire Station (which we couldn't do as no one to help) or to somehow block the signal from the Fire Station. So I went back into Tesco's to buy a roll of Tin Foil !!! We tore off a large sheet of foil, held it up near the back panel where the main receiver is, put the immobiliser fob behind the foil, waited for a minute and then pressed the immobiliser fob. It worked immediately !!! The foil blocked the signal enough for the immobiliser to work. We quickly started the car and got the hell out of there !!! So from now on, we'll not be parking the Explorer near a Police Station, Hospital or Fire Station and we'll always carry a roll of tin foil with us !!!!!

Does anyone know how I can rewire or bypass the computer on a 1996 Ford Explorer V8 as I have removed the engine and fitted it into a Ford Falcon here in New Zealand. The electrical system or computer will allow the engine to tun over but it will not allow spark to the plugs. The new vehicle does not have a body module fitted but it does have the original Explorer computer fitted and wired up according to the wiring diagrams. Any assistance would be of great help as this vehicle is in showroom condition after many years of restoration and I now just want to drive it.

If the red light on the fob comes on when you press the button it is working fine. I have an Explorer and the signal gets jammed by some radio transmitters i.e. police etc. Hold the fob close to the tool box in the back side panel thats where the receiver aerial is.If it still does not work you will have to tow the car away from the interference. Fords are aware of the problem but will not address it because this model was designed for the American market where the frequency range of the fob is not used as much. When parking somewhere new press the fob before turning the engine off and check that the immobiliser light on the dash flashes, if not move to another spot and try again. You cannot bypass the immobiliser as it is part of the ECU
